This module provides practical information, guidelines, examples and tools to support organisations and key actors to undertake psychosocial support to bring about positive change for children in humanitarian contexts. Useful guidance is provided to analyse what type of support best suits a particular context as well as identifying targets and appropriate messages and developing support strategies. Psychosocial support in emergencies has specific challenges and risks, but also has the potential to draw attention to neglected emergencies and make a real change in the fulfilment of children’s rights. It can lead to shortterm changes but can also address underlying causes, making it an essential part of a rightsbased approach. This foundation module is organised into five sections, following the logic that could be used in a workshop to introduce trainees to a rightsbased approach to ARC. The material in this module is complemented by more detailed application in other methodology or Critical issue modules and so aim at establishing base principles and concepts through generic exercises.
